NI under-21s defeat Finns
NI midfielder Gavin Melaugh (No 6) scored his side's first goal against Finland

Two late goals ensured Northern Ireland youngsters their first victory at under-21 level for two years.

Leading 1-0 at the break through a Gavin Melaugh goal, late strikes by Lee McEvilly and Terry McFlynn earned success over Finland at Mourneview Park.

It was a frentic finish to the game after Finland looked to have grabbed a draw when Petri Orivanen fired home three minuts from time.

Melaugh had grabbed the opener on the stroke of half-time when his 25-yard shot took a deflection before lobbing over the head of goalkeeper Otto Fredrikson.

Nothern Ireland had the better of the game, but their hearts sank with Orivanen's equaliser.

However, McEvilly rifled home a 25-yard free-kick that left Fredrikson flat-footed.

Just to make sure, McFlynn rounded off a fine evening's work by Roy Millar's side with the third goal at the death.
