New York Red Bulls confirm Carl Robinson signing

Ex-Wales international Carl Robinson has completed his move to Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls.

The 33-year-old midfielder left MLS rivals Toronto last week after a three-year stay to join the Bulls on trial.

Now New York general manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler has confirmed Robinson's signing.

"He has significant experience at both club and international level," he said. "We expect that he will bring a strong veteran presence to our locker room."

Robinson started his career as a trainee at Wolves, going on to play for the Portsmouth, Sunderland and Norwich before moving to MLS side Toronto in their first year in 2007.

Robinson, who made his Wales debut in 1999 against Belarus, won the last of his 52 caps coming off the substitutes bench in Wales' defeat to Finland in April 2009.

He was named the most valuable player in the club's first two seasons in MLS but left for New York due to Toronto's salary cap.

And Soler is delighted after signing such an experienced player.

He added: "Carl is a very consistent player who will immediately contend for a spot in our starting line-up."
