Flynn stays upbeat on Wales U21

Wales Under-21 manager Brian Flynn remained confident his side could qualify for Euro 2011 despite their 2-1 defeat in Bosnia-Hercegovina.

"We had an off night - that can happen in football, but I know that on our day we can beat anyone in Europe," he said.

"We weren't at our best. We had chances to recover but it wasn't to be.

"We have to go to Hungary and Italy and get results. In the past they've shown they can do that, that's the strength - as underdogs we come out fighting."

It was the first defeat of the campaign for Flynn's side, who are still top of Group Three with 13 points.

Hungary are in second place, four points behind with two games in hand.

Wales had won four of their five group games with the only points being dropped in the 0-0 draw in Luxembourg.

But they now go into their 10-month break with a defeat and finish their qualifying campaign with important trips to Hungary and Italy next September.

The 10 group winners and four best runners-up will qualify for the play-off stage, with the seven winners joining hosts Denmark in the finals in June 2011.

"It's going to be tough without a doubt, but if you're going to qualify for any finals you have to pick up points away from home," Flynn told BBC Sport Wales.

"Look at the group - we are still top. It was obviously disappointing, our opening goal was fantastic.

"We had our chances to recover late on, that's for certain, but the better side won - Bosnia were excellent."
