Midfielder Aaron Ramsey has urged Wales to end a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign on a high by beating Liechtenstein on Wednesday.

Wales will finish fourth in Group Four regardless of the result after they were beaten 2-1 to Finland on Saturday.

"We shot ourselves in the foot when the first whistle was blown as we didn't start the greatest and we didn't end the greatest," Ramsey told BBC Sport.

"We need to finish on a high really... and make the week look a bit better."

Neither Wales nor Liechtenstein can qualify for next year's World Cup in South Africa.

Liechtenstein, who lost 2-0 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff a year ago, are currently bottom of group four without a win in their nine qualifiers, drawing just twice.

But they could lift themselves off the bottom if they win and fifth-place Azerbaijan lose at home to Russia.

And Ramsey knows Wales will have to be patient if they are to get a result out in Vaduz.

"We are under no illusions that it's going to be a very hard game for us," said the 18-year-old Arsenal midfielder.

"We are not guaranteed the win by a long way. We will go there and give it a good shot.

"It will be very hard to break them down but we will keep going until the last minute of the game and if it comes in the 90th-minute, we will take it.

"We will play football and get it down and try and pass our way through.

"If we get one in the first 10 minutes then great, but if it takes until the last minute of the game, it's still going to be three points at the end."

Caerphilly-born Ramsey is rapidly making a name for himself at both club and international level.

The nine-times capped youngster, who cost Arsenal £5m when he joined the Gunners from Cardiff at the start of last season, admitted he was "hurt" by Wales' failure to qualify for next year's World Cup in South Africa.

And he says John Toshack's side need to start performing against the lesser sides in their group if they are to progress.

"We have had good performances away from home against bigger opposition as in Russia and Germany," said Ramsey.

"We wanted to win the game [against Finland] and we came here with a positive mind and thought that we had a really good chance of winning the game and finishing above them.

"We really need to start getting results against teams like these to help put us in good shape for the next championships because we really want to qualify and do well in the competition.

"We can play some good football like we showed when we scored our goal, but we need to be doing that on a more regular basis throughout the game and not just in patches.

"We have to lift ourselves up now."
