Evans boosts Wales U21 Uefa bid

Wales Under-21 manager Brian Flynn with Ched Evans
Evans moved from Manchester City to Sheffield United for 3m this month

New Sheffield United striker Ched Evans has been included in Wales' Under-21 squad for the 12 August Uefa U21 qualifying clash against Hungary.

The match at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground (1930 BST) is on the same day as the senior Wales friendly against Montenegro in Podgorica.

Evans is joined by fellow full Wales caps Joe Allen and Andy King in an 18-man squad, with nine more on standby.

"At this stage, I think it's important Ched plays for the U21s," said Flynn.

"Ched on his own admission had a frustrating year last season [at Manchester City] in terms of the few games he played.

"Unfortunately any player, not just Ched, would lose that cutting edge and sharpness through not playing games.

"This will give him a good 90 minutes."

Flynn believes Evans' £3m moved to Sheffield United will help him become established in the Wales senior team where he has already won 10 caps.

"If it gives him games - and I'm sure it will - then it can only help Ched in his international development career," added Flynn.

"I still believe and have confidence in Ched that he will be a big player for Wales in the future."
