Uncapped trio not ready - Toshack

Wales manager John Toshack admits three uncapped players picked for their next two games are not yet ready for international football.

Toshack has called up Reading striker Simon Church and midfield duo Andy King (Leicester) and Joe Allen (Swansea).

The trio could play in the 29 May friendly against Estonia and World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan on 6 June.

But Toshack readily admitted: "Whether they are ready - I wouldn't say they're ready yet."

The Wales manager added: "I think that these are the best options under the circumstances that we are working in at the moment."

Toshack believes there are no other options available to him, with a lack of quality players aged between 24 and 32 and that Church, King and Allen have been progressing at Under-21 level with Brian Flynn.

"We know them and they're the next," said Toshack. "It is a very, very young squad, there is no question about that.

"But I think it's been well-documented that for one reason or another this is the situation that we're in."

Toshack will then cut his 22-man squad to 20 for the World Cup Group Four qualifier in Azerbaijan on 6 June.

Toshack is without a string of senior men through injury, including captain Craig Bellamy (knee), midfielder Simon Davies (foot) and defender James Collins (calf).

Toshack has also left out Jason Koumas and Karl Fletcher, and he said "It gives us a chance over a week or 10 days to have a look at some of the younger members of what is already a young squad.

"Once again we've been forced to leave out Davies, Bellamy and Collins through injury.

"I spoke to Koumas and Fletcher and told them that they wouldn't be involved this time for one reason or another."

Toshack added: "Jason has not played since the game with Finland, not without his problems.

"I want to have a look at some of the younger midfield players and I have decided to leave him out. Much the same as Carl Fletcher, who has been out of training for a few weeks now.

"The door is not closed for Jason, it is because of his lack of games at club level that he is not selected.

"We had a chat after the Finland game and both decided it would be better for him to get his head down, and start playing regular football at his club and we will take it from there."

Toshack hopes Davies and Collins will return to full fitness and be available again later in the year.

He added: "Simon has not been at his best. I understand that he has a stress fracture and has played on with that. So he will get that cleared up and be ready for when we start next season.

"James Collins has not been available as much as we would have liked and he has had big problems with injuries."

Wales squad: Hennessey (Wolves), Myhill (Hull), Price (Derby), Bale (Tottenham), Eardley (Oldham), Gunter (Tottenham), Morgan (Peterborough), Nyatanga (Derby), Ricketts (Hull), A Williams (Swansea), Allen (Swansea), Collison (West Ham), Cotterill (Sheff Utd), D Edwards (Wolves), Tudur Jones (Swansea), King (Leicester), Ledley (Cardiff), Ramsey (Arsenal), Church (Reading), Earnshaw (Nottm Forest), Evans (Man City), Vokes (Wolves).
