Scotland U21 5-2 Albania U21

Andrew Shinnie and David Goodwillie celebrate
Scotland turned on the style at the Falkirk Stadium

Scotland U21s hammered Albania in the race for a European Championship place.

David Goodwillie drilled in the opener 10 minutes before half time, while Chris Maguire added a close range finish after the interval.

Andrew Shinnie tapped in after Maguire's shot had been saved and Jamie Murphy nodded home once Jahmir Hyka had pulled one back.

Emilian Vila reduced the deficit only for Stephen McGinn to complete the scoring with an audacious back-heel.

Scotland sit on six points from two games, having earned a 1-0 win over the same opponents at the weekend.

The hosts made a composed start at the Falkirk Stadium and Bairns midfielder Scott Arfield headed just wide from Maguire's cross before the opening goal.

Dundee United's Goodwillie raced away from the Albania defence before rifling the ball through the goalkeeper's legs.

Scotland doubled their lead in the 51st minute with a sweeping move that saw Aberdeen forward Maguire pass the ball into the empty net from close range.

Goodwillie set the lively Barry Bannan free on the flank and the Aston Villa winger cleverly waited for the goalkeeper to rush from his goal before squaring the ball for Maguire.

Two minutes later, Maguire's ferocious shot from the inside the box was knocked into the path of Shinnie by keeper Shpetim Mocka and the Rangers midfielder swept the ball home.

The visitors responded with a long range effort from Hyka that beat Alan Martin in the 72nd minute.

Scotland restored their three-goal lead through substitute Murphy two minutes later when the Motherwell striker headed Shinnie's near-post cross into the net.

With minutes left, Vila pulled another consolation goal back for the away side but substitute McGinn, of St Mirren, added a fifth for Scotland in injury-time with a cheeky flick inside the area.
