Republic of Ireland Under-21 manager Don Givens has included Dutch-born defender Barry Maguire in his squad for next month's friendly against Germany.

Maguire, whose father is a Dublin native, is one of seven uncapped players named in the squad for the Turner's Cross game on 10 February.

The 19-year-old is playing for FC Utrecht in the Dutch top flight.

Chris Fagan, who is currently at the Glenn Hoddle Football Academy in Spain, also gets a first call-up.

Fagan was previously on Manchester United's books.

The squad's other uncapped players are Celtic duo Graham Carey and Cillian Sheridan plus Shane Lowry (Aston Villa), Brendan Moloney (Nottingham Forest) and David Meyler (Sunderland).

Maguire is regarded as one of the best young players in the Dutch League.

In-form Hamilton Academical midfielder James McCarthy, who has one Republic Under-21 cap, is also included in the panel.

McCarthy was named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League young player of the month for December.

Givens believes the clash against Germany will be a good test for his players.

"Countries like Germany can call on a big pool of players and are always very strong," said Givens.

"They are preparing for this summer's UEFA Under-21 European Championships, so their players will be looking to impress.

"However, we also have a very strong squad. A lot of the squad have played for us before and have shown their potential.

"I have not included any League of Ireland players in the squad simply because they are only returning to pre-season training."

Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad: Redmond (Nottingham Forest), Henderson (Bristol City), Spillane (Norwich), Nolan (Preston), Lowry (Aston Villa), Moloney (Nottingham Forest), Christy Fagan (Glenn Hoddle Academy), Maguire (FC Utrecht), O'Toole (Watford), Gleeson (Wolves), McCarthy (Hamilton), Garvan (Ipswich), Liddle (Carlisle), Judge (Blackburn), Meyler (Sunderland), Carey (Celtic), Sheridan (Celtic), Scannell (Crystal Palace)
