Argentina stars set for Glasgow

Maradona led Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986

New coach Diego Maradona has a host of stars at his disposal for Argentina's visit to Scotland on 19 November, despite the absence of Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona forward has been excused from the friendly to compensate for his release for the Olympics.

However, Maradona has some impressive striking options for the match, including Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Lisandro Lopez and German Denis.

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano will skipper the side.

Maradona has said he will line up with four defenders at Hampden but is open to experimenting with a back-three as he looks to improve on a poor run of results.

The South Americans lie third in their qualifying zone for the 2010 World Cup after just one win in seven.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta reluctantly released Messi for the Olympic Games in return for a pledge that he would be rested for friendly matches this year.

"Messi is not in the list out of respect to Barcelona," said Maradona.

"When we met 'AFA president Julio' Grondona, the verbal agreement was already set.

"Laporta was a gentleman by letting him play the Olympic Games so we decided to let him stay in Barcelona for this match.

"If Barcelona finally let him play, he will be included in the list."
