McAllister's penalty saved at Wembley
Gary McAllister blows the chance to score at Wembley against England

England 2-0 Scotland

One of the most painful misses of all time for Scotland fans had to be Gary McAllister's saved penalty at Wembley.

It was the finals of Euro 96 and Scotland had been drawn to play England, Holland and Switzerland.

Alan Shearer had given England the lead, then Scotland had the chance to get back into the match from the penalty spot.

The Scotland captain stepped up to take the kick but hit it too close to England keeper David Seaman and the Arsenal man saved.

McAllister held his head in his hands and looked to the famous Wembley turf. In an instant, he knew the moment would go down in Scotland's football history.

Minutes later, Paul Gascoigne rubbed salt into McAllister's wounded soul by scoring an outrageous goal past Andy Goram to make the final score 2-0.
