Knudsen set for debut at Hampden

Norway manager Age Hareide has called up Brann midfielder Erik Huseklepp for the first time as he prepares for the World Cup qualifying tie with Scotland.

Valerenga defender Kjetil Waehler is in the squad as a replacement for the injured Tore Reginiussen.

And Stabaek goalkeeper Jon Knudsen, 33, is expected to make his international debut at Hampden on 11 October.

Regular first choice keeper Rune Almenning Jarstein is struggling for form and fitness but is included.

English-based stars John Carew and Morten Gamst Pedersen will be well known to Scotland fans as will former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise, now at Roma, and ex-Tottenham forward Steffen Iversen.

However, there is no place for Lillestrom's former Celtic defender Vidar Riseth.

Norway, who drew the opening match of the Group 9 campaign at home to Iceland, were 1-0 winners on their last visit to Hampden four years ago.

In a qualifier for World Cup 2006, Iversen netted a penalty following James McFadden's 53rd-minute dismissal for deliberate handball.

Scotland revenged that defeat thanks to a Kenny Miller double in Olso in September 2005 but finished a distant third behind Italy and Norway, who went on to lose a play-off with the Czech Republic.

"I love arenas like Hampden, I did as a player and do as a coach," said Hareide.

"The Scottish fans never give up and also applaud the opponents if they plays well. For a player who copes with the atmosphere, this is the perfect place to play.

"This is a very important game for us. We lost two points against Iceland, and have to win points now.

"We won there four years ago and aim to repeat that."

Scotland manager George Burley names his squad on Thursday.
