Sammy Clingan knows Northern Ireland must improve
Sammy Clingan is hoping the atmosphere of a big night game in Belfast can lift Northern Ireland as they face the Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier.
After losing their opening Group Eight match in Slovakia, they badly need a victory at the partisan Windsor Park.
"The atmosphere is always better when the game takes place under lights. It is an old ground with the fans close to the pitch," said Norwich man Clingan.
"The crowd is bouncing and there is a great noise. It is like a 12th man."
Clingan conceded the pressure was on Northern Ireland after the disappointment of Saturday's 2-1 reverse in Bratislava.
"It was a difficult weekend after the defeat on the opening day but
we are grateful to have a another game so soon afterwards," added the midfielder.
We have analysed our mistakes and now we have to put things right. We have trained well and the players are buzzing again.
"The Czech Republic have a big reputation but we are looking forward to the
game as it is at Windsor Park."
