Trezeguet scored the golden goal which won Euro 2000 for France

France striker David Trezeguet has announced his retirement from international football.

The 30-year-old was left out of France's Euro 2008 squad and blamed his decision on coach Raymond Domenech, who was told last week he can keep his job.

"The poor performance at Euro 2008 and the decision to keep the coach have pushed me to make this decision," Trezeguet told Gazetta dello Sport.

"These decisions were taken more for political than footballing reasons."

France failed to qualify for the knock-out stages at last month's European Championship, losing to Holland and Italy and drawing with Romania.

Trezeguet added: "The public's opinion - which was in my favour - was not respected.

"I see football differently from the way they see it in France. The Euros were very negative, but what bothered me most was Domenech's confirmation."

The Juventus striker scored 34 goals in 71 appearances for his country, including the vital "golden goal" against Italy which won the 2000 European Championship final for France.
