Beckham confident of England role

David Beckham has said playing in the United States will not prevent him having a key role in England's World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 33-year-old insists he feels fine physically and can still perform at the highest level.

"I'm always going to be the same player - whether I'm playing in Spain, England or the USA," he said.

"I can switch from playing in the USA to playing on a Wednesday against one of the best teams in the world."

The LA Galaxy midfielder struggled with injury during his first season, making just five league appearances after joining from real Madrid half way through the MLS campaign.

This season, however, has seen a rejuvenated Beckham fire the Galaxy to second in the table with four goals in nine games.

He also captained England in their 3-0 friendly win against Trinidad and Tobago and started the 2-0 victory over the United States at Wembley last week.

"Fitness-wise, I feel I can carry on for a few years," he added.

"If I felt I couldn't carry on, maybe I'd turn around and retire from international football but that is not the case.

"I still feel I can perform at the highest level and it is exciting to play again under Fabio Capello who is a great manager.

"I want to be part of the squad for the 2010 World Cup if at all possible. The manager has already said if I stay fit and I am performing, then I've got a chance."
