Even though Steven Gerrard appeared to cover a lot of grass he was trumped by centre midfield team-mate Frank Lampard.

Gerrard has not been at his best in the last few England games and against Croatia he failed to change the trend.

His ventures into the penalty area were few - maybe coach Steve McClaren should have exploited his passion to drive forward that is seen so often for Liverpool.
