Hosts Holland comfortably beat Israel in the opening match of the European Under-21 Championship.
Hedwiges Maduro scored the only goal of the game after only 10 minutes when he got ahead of his marker to tap the ball in at the far post.
Holland dominated possession and territory and should have scored more, but they could not find the cutting edge to match their build-up.
Winger Royston Drenthe came closest with a fierce left-footed shot late on.
