England World Cup squad members Theo Walcott and Scott Carson have been named in the Under-21 squad to face Moldova in Ipswich on Tuesday night.
Coach Peter Taylor also hands first calls to Sunderland keeper Ben Alnwick and Manchester City's Micah Richards.
England face Switzerland and Moldova in a three-team qualifying group for a place in next year's European U21 Championships in Holland.
Their next qualifier is away to Switzerland on 6 September in Lucerne.
