Scotland U21 4-0 Iceland U21
Scotland were comfortable winners at Firhill
Scotland's Under 21s eased to a comfortable victory over Iceland in a friendly match at Firhill.

Steven Naismith gave the young Scots the perfect start with a fine strike inside the first minute of the match.

Martin Scott squeezed in goal number two from close range and Calum Elliot added a header before half-time.

Elliot grabbed his second after the break with a neat lofted shot, while Charlie Adam went close with a 30-yard free-kick that grazed the woodwork.

Interim manager Maurice Malpas was hit by nine withdrawals and consequently five Scottish youngsters were making their debuts.

Adam, Elliot, Scott, Martin Woods and Gary Irvine all pulled on the dark blue shirt for the first time at this level. A bitterly cold night had helped reduce the crowd but those who did turn up were rewarded for their loyalty with a goal inside 60 seconds.

With the first attack of the game the ball broke to Naismith 14 yards from goal and the Kilmarnock striker quickly drilled his right-footed shot low past Iceland keeper Magnur Thormar.

In the 19th minute Scotland doubled their lead after an impressive counter-attacking move.

Naismith clear on the left and when his cut back came across the six-yard box Elliot swiped and missed but the ball fell to Scott at the back post and the Livingston player drove it in from a narrow angle.

The Scots were well in control of the game and there was no surprise when they added to their lead ten minutes later.

Scott crossed from the right and Hearts striker Elliot was first to react at the near post with a bullet header from close range.

Scotland continued to dominate after the interval and Elliot added a tremendous goal in the 57th minute.

Irvine's whipped-in cross from the right was met by the teenage striker who superbly scooped his shot over Thormar from 12 yards out.

A barrage of substitutions ensured a scrappy ending although Adam went close with a long-range free-kick which skimmed the post.
