Republic of Ireland boss Steve Staunton appears confident that Newcastle's Stephen Carr is set to reverse his decision to quit international duty.
Stephen Carr has 39 Republic of Ireland caps
Carr, 29, announced his international retirement after the Republic's failure to qualify for the World Cup finals.
"He has had a few problems this season, so he needs to be back playing, but we are keeping an eye on the situation," said Staunton.
"We have been in contact with him, and it's very positive."
Carr has 39 Republic caps but missed out on the 2002 World Cup finals because of injury.
The full-back is currently out of action because of a groin injury.
