In his last ever Asian Cup final appearance, Daei sealed the win with an 80th minute penalty and a last-minute
drive to notch up his 97th goal in a remarkable 129-match international career.
Ali Karimi and Javad Nekounam also netted one each for Iran, while Saleh Farhan and Tala Yusuf scored for their Gulf neighbours.
The victory was sweet revenge for three-time champions Iran, who lost 3-1 to Bahrain during the 2002 World Cup qualifiers that ultimately cost them a spot in the final.
Despite the defeat, Bahrain exceeded all expectations in what was just their second Asian Cup appearance.
