England move up Fifa list
Welsh football fans have a team to be proud of
England, Wales and Scotland have made jumps up Fifa's world rankings for October. Sven-Goran Eriksson's team - despite moderate performances against Slovakia and Macedonia - have moved up three places to joint sixth with Mexico. Wales, who recorded an unexpected but thoroughly deserved win against Italy, have gained 15 places to lie 61st.
The Italians, meanwhile, slip out of the top 10 and are now 11th. Scotland's win in Iceland has seen them leap eight places to 55th. It is the first rise in their world standing since Berti Vogts became manager.
The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland's placings remain unchanged at 14th and 98th. Another side on the move is Holland who go from 12th to ninth, after wining both their opening Euro 2004 qualifying matches. Brazil remain top with France second. |
