East Stirling's cult heroes

This vote is now closed.

Gordon Russell has been voted East Stirlingshire's all-time cult hero.

Russell won with 86% of the vote ahead of fellow East Stirling favourites Gordon Simpson and Jim Docherty.

GORDON RUSSELL: 86%

Played for the club for an incredible 18 years (1983-2001), including a spell as caretaker boss. Has played more times for the club than any other individual in history - 415 league appearances!!!
David S

GORDON SIMPSON: 14%

Hard-as-nails centre-back who captained The Shire under Sir Alex Ferguson. Like all Fergie's best captains, he was a man in the manager's image and led by example - he was troubled by cartilage in his knee which would pop out during games and every time it did, he would grimace and push it back in! Set a Firs Park appearances record before retiring in 1980 (although this was subsequently overtaken by the great Gordon Russell).
Jim Brown

JIM DOCHERTY: 0%

Prolific striker. After bagging 14 goals in 22 league outings in 1978/79 he was swiftly snapped up by Chelsea for 35,000 - still the highest fee received by The Shires for any player. Things didn't quite go to plan after that - he only spent two weeks in Chelsea's first-team before a free transfer to Dundee Utd - where he made just two appearances...
