Ayr Utd's cult heroes

This vote is now closed.

Hugh Sproat has been voted Ayr Utd's all-time cult hero by Football Focus viewers.

Sproat won with 42% of the vote, ahead of fellow Ayr favourites Henry Templeton and Andy Walker.

A goal keeper who always wore green when playing Rangers and blue when playing Celtic.
Gary Dick

Wore a Green shirt v Rangers, blue shirt v Celtic. Loved to have a bit of banter with the opposing fans. Hughie was a bit of a punk rocker and tried to get away with wearing a razor blade as an earing during games. An extrovert, and a brilliant all round goalie.
Ronnie McJannet

Great eccentric keeper. Wore a green jersey when we played Rangers and a blue jersey when we played Celtic. Brilliant wind-up.
Andy MacFarlane

Great dribbler.. Once spotted smoking and eating hamburgers 30 minutes before a Cup game.
Alistair Clark

One of Ally McLeod's inspirational signings in the late 80s, he couldn't score a goal without dribbling round half the opposition players twice. Best memory is in the televised Scottish Cup tie at Dunfermline when he was sensational, and made the rest of the country take note, particularly when in his post-match interview Ally compared his style of play to Peter Beardsley!
Robin MacLaren

Signed on the eve of season 1987/88 by Ally. This lad was one of the last great Scottish wingers/midfielders, he liked the booze, the fags, didn't fancy training but boy could he play football. Nowadays he would be called a ball carrier due to the fact he did not play as an out and out winger. We had a couple of seasons of pure joy watching Henry!
Ronnie McJannet

Wee man, all the skill!
Stewart Dunn

For scoring a cheeky chip from the penalty spot over the Killie keeper in a Scottish Cup derby game. Everytime I see his face on TV I'm reminded of that wondrous victory!
Alan Bartholomew

For having the cheek to chip the keeper for a penalty in the Scottish Cup against our local rivals Kilmarnock.
Gary Dick

For his majestic penalty against local rivals Killie.
Alastair Cole

Chipped a penalty over the goalie of our great rivals in the Scottish Cup (BBC should have the footage!)
Stewart Dunn

A short Ayr United career but still managed to impress everyone with his skill and vision. Also took the best penalty I've ever seen against our local rivals.
Andy MacFarlane
