Shrewsbury's cult heroes

This vote is now closed.

Dean Spink has been voted Shrewsbury's all-time cult hero by Football Focus viewers.

Spink won with 68% of the vote, ahead of fellow Shrewsbury legends Steve Anthrobus and Austin Berkeley.

STEVE ANTHROBUS: 23%

Never the greatest player but a workman till the end - tall strong and powerful and the chant of "Throb's going to get you" would ring out across the riverside many a day. A lovely man when you met him and always wore his heart on his shoulder. A legend at the Meadow for nothing but being himself.

AUSTIN BERKELEY: 9%

Career wise did nothing but god did he look like Robbie Williams. And that run in the FA Cup game in 96 to set up the winner and the tie with Liverpool...top class. A silky winger who everyone loved at the Meadow.

Rod Stewart looky-likey who can play as a centre-forward or as a centre-back. Never given a chance at Aston Villa, he was soon sent to Shrewsbury. There, John Bond told him he'd never make it (excellent man-management there), but then proceeded to play him at the back. That year he was voted Shrewsbury's player of the year, and would go on to make over 300 appearances for the club.
