Clive Mendonca has been voted Grimsby's all-time cult hero by the club's fans.

Mendonca won with 52% of the vote, ahead of fellow Grimsby legends John McDermott and Ivano Bonetti.

He is the club's leading record appearance holder with over 500. He is going to start his 19th season at Grimsby this year. A great unsung hero at right back. One of the best right backs outside the Premiership in his prime and a loyal player. Can still remember Macca's quality goals coming from left back playing a 1-2 then driving it across the goalkeeper. Used to have lightning pace too and no winger ever got past him.

I remember chanting 'Long live Ivano! Down with Laws' at Scunthorpe boss and our ex-boss Brian Laws. We loved to taunt him after he lobbed a plate of chicken at our 1995/1996 fans fave Ivano Bonetti after a bust up in the changing rooms.
