Players score points for the BBC Fantasy Football Monthly game in Premiership matches only (FA Cup, Carling Cup, European and International matches do not count):
-
Goal 3 pts
- Assist (last completed pass from attacking player to goalscorer) 2 pts
- Goalkeeper/Defender appearance (playing 45 minutes or more of a match) 1 pt
- Goalkeeper/Defender clean sheet (when on the field for 76 minutes or more, includes appearance point) 3 pts
- Goalkeeper/Defender goal conceded -1 pt
GOALS are allocated as by the Press Association (PA) taken from the referee's report on the day of the match. Fantasy League will not over-rule this source unless a goal is re-assigned by the Football Association (FA) to another player within 24 hours of the end of the match.
ASSISTS are awarded to a team-mate making the last completed pass to an eventual goalscorer before a goal is scored. There are only two exceptions:
1) If the last touch before a goalscorer is from a team-mate but his touch does not significantly alter the speed or direction of the ball, then two separate assists are given, one for each of the players setting up the goal. This will typically occur for flick-on headers - a common result of corners, long throws and goal kicks.
2) If the last touch before a goalscorer is by an opposing player and significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball (excluding a goal-line clearance), then no assist is given.
In the event of a penalty, the fouled player gains an assist if the penalty is successfully scored, but not if he takes it himself in which case no assist is given.
Similarly, a player that causes a handball on the goal-line (the only circumstance where an assist will be awarded for a handball) will gain an assist if the resulting penalty is scored, except if the same attacking player takes it. No assist is given for a player who earns a free-kick that subsequently results in a goal.
If a goalkeeper parries a shot or drops a cross, the attacking player shooting or crossing the ball receives the assist if a goal directly ensues.
The only time a goalkeeper removes the assist is if he intentionally punches the ball out as he is judged to have been in control of the ball.
The decision of Fantasy League will be final on all these matters.
APPEARANCE POINTS are awarded to a goalkeeper, full back or centre back who is on the pitch for at least 45 minutes, including extra-time. Goalkeepers, full backs and centre backs appearing in only part of a game will lose one point per goal conceded while playing. Therefore, a player playing a full game and conceding one goal will score zero points whereas a player playing for 30 minutes and conceding one goal will score minus one point.
If no goals are conceded while playing, players will receive the extra two points for a CLEAN SHEET, if they are on the field for 76 minutes or more (i.e. defenders starting the game will need to be substituted in at least the 76th minute in order to obtain the two additional points).
RULE CHANGE Goalkeepers and defenders receiving red cards can now lose points after they are sent off. If a player is sent off and his team concedes goals after his dismissal, he continues to lose the points that his team-mates do.
If the goalkeeper/defender is sent off and his team keep a clean sheet then, as previously, he keeps the points as at the time he was sent off.
