The League One leaders proved too good for the non-leaguers
FC United's Jake Cotterill missed a second-half penalty as Brighton eased past the non-leaguers in their FA Cup second round replay at Gigg Lane.
Francisco Sandaza scored first before Inigo Calderon made it 2-0 in stoppage time, and late goals by Elliott Bennett and Matthew Sparrow sealed the win.
United were handed a lifeline at 2-0 down when they were given a spot-kick after Calderon's foul on Ben Deegan.
Cotterill's miss let Brighton go on and win and they will now host Portsmouth.
The Evo-Stik Premier League side earned their replay courtesy of an injury-time penalty save in the first game at the Withdean Stadium.
Despite the 113-place difference between the teams in the football pyramid, FC United were determined not to show their guests too much deference, and after being forced onto the back foot early on, they took the game to the visitors.
But just after the midway point of the first half Bennett set up Sandaza for a close-range finish and although Chris Ovington went close for the home side, Calderon's header in first-half stoppage time doubled Brighton's lead and rocked FC United back on their heels.
After the break Carlos Roca did his best to cause problems for the visitors' defence, but when United's chance finally came, it was from the penalty spot.
But Cotterill put the ball wide of the target, and having survived this scare, the league side showed United no mercy, adding two more goals in the last four minutes to make sure of their win and a home tie against Portsmouth.
Bennett made it 3-0, firing in from 10 yards, before Sparrow put the gloss on the victory in injury time when he headed home Gary Hart's cross.
Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "I'm very pleased for different reasons. It was a matter of being professional and the team showed that.
"We took care of the game, we tried hard to play, we were strong, we had good performances and we scored, so everything was as planned.
"For me, Liam Bridcutt was outstanding. I think his decisions were perfect today. When you make more than 75-80% decisions right you become a very key player, especially in the position he plays."
