Ebbsfleet United   2 - 3   AFC Wimbledon

Sammy Moore
Moore joined the Dons from Ebbsfleet's Kent rivals Dover in July

Sammy Moore scored twice as AFC Wimbledon needed extra time to beat Ebbsfleet in their FA Cup replay.

Mark Nwokeji headed the Dons ahead, but Ashley Carew replied from the penalty spot, and then curled in from the edge of the box to put Ebbsfleet 2-1 up.

But Moore stabbed in an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

With 120 minutes up and the tie heading for penalties, Moore dramatically slotted home the winner to book a home game against Stevenage in round two.

Ebbsfleet had won only two of their six home games in Blue Square Bet South this season but they began brightly as Michael West saw his low shot pushed around the post by Seb Brown in only the second minute.

But it was the Dons - who play a level above Fleet in non-league's top flight - who got their noses in front when Nwokeji reacted smartly to finish after Rashid Yussuff nodded Ryan Jackson's cross back across goal.

Ebbsfleet's response was immediate as Tom Phipp was bundled over by Andre Blackman after bursting into the box and Carew, who was sent off in the initial tie, sent Brown the wrong way from the spot.

If that finish was assured, his second was exquisite, curling a delicious right-footed effort past the helpless Brown and into the corner from 18 yards.

Wimbledon remained a threat, with Yussuff firing narrowly wide from 25 yards, but Carew was only denied a first half hat-trick when Brown got down well to push his low right-footed drive around his left upright.

But the visitors really should have been level before the hour when Blackman's cross found Danny Kedwell, only for the Dons' top-scorer to side foot over the bar from the angle of the six-yard box.

Ebbsfleet still carried a threat on the break and only another impressive stop from Brown kept out Ram Marwa's swerving 25-yarder.

Yet, just when it looked like they would hold on, Sammy Moore met Luke Moore's deep cross with the outside of his right foot to send the tie into extra time.

Tiring Ebbsfleet needed an excellent smothering save from Edwards to deny Luke Moore in the first period of extra time.

And their hearts were finally broken in injury time at the end of the second period when Sammy Moore beat the offside trap to coolly side-foot home for the Dons.

It sent AFC Wimbledon - formed in 2002 by fans opposed to the Football Association's decision to allow 1988 FA Cup winners Wimbledon FC to move to Milton Keynes - into the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.

Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish told BBC Radio Kent:
"I can't be bitter because my lads have given me everything. I'm disappointed we haven't gone through, not for me, but for them. They deserved to be in the next round, but it wasn't to be.

"Maybe it's Wimbledon's destiny to be in the next round, especially with the timings of the two goals - the last minute of normal time, and the last minute of extra time.

"Perhaps our concentration levels weren't quite good enough, but Wimbledon put in two very good crosses for the goals, from [former Ebbsfleet striker] Luke Moore of all people.

"For such a young bunch of lads though, I hope this will be a positive experience to take into the rest of the season."
