Martin Hayes does not want to draw Gillingham in FA Cup

Dover manager Martin Hayes had said he would not relish facing League Two side Gillingham if they were to reach the first round of the FA Cup.

Dover face Farnborough on Saturday week, looking to reach the first round for only the second time in 28 years.

After an acrimonious summer which saw two Dover managers, their assistant and their youth coach move to Priestfield, many Whites fans would like revenge.

But Hayes told BBC Radio Kent: "I don't really want Gillingham."

He added: "That name seems to be coming up a lot for the first round.

I'm not even thinking about about who we could get in the first round because there's going to be someone in two weeks time who is going to want to be there as badly as us

"I wouldn't be too unhappy if it was Sheffield Wednesday or Southampton away but I don't really want Gillingham.

"But there's going to be one more tough game to go yet.

"I'm not even thinking about about who we could get in the first round because there's going to be someone in two weeks time who is going to want to be there as badly as us."

Relations between the two Kent sides were still good even when Andy Hessenthaler moved from Crabble back to Priestfield for his second spell as Gillingham manager.

But the situation became strained when Hessenthaler's replacement Ian Hendon left just days after accepting the role - and became Gillingham's number two.

Dover's assistant Nicky Southall and youth team coach Darren Hare are also now at Priestfield.
