Wolverhampton   2 - 2   Crystal Palace

Zubar (right) ensured Wolves will replay against Palace

Ronald Zubar's 84th-minute volley spared Wolves' blushes as they twice came from behind to take Crystal Palace side to an FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Alan Lee handed the Eagles a dream start after just two minutes when he headed home Ambrose's corner.

But David Jones slotted in an equaliser after Kevin Foley's cross was knocked back to him by Andrew Surman.

Darren Ambrose restored Palace's lead with a curling free-kick before Zubar struck late on to rescue Wolves.

It denied Championship outfit Palace, who are 11 places below Wolves in the football pyramid, from claiming what would have been a superb win.

However, overall the result was a fair reflection of a stop-start encounter.

But Neil Warnock will feel he came close to teaching his old apprentice a thing or two, with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy having cleaned his boots during the pair's playing days at Barnsley.

Palace will be pleased to have earned the right to take Wolves back to their own ground, but the one downside on the day was an injury to Claude Davis.

He received treatment following a seemingly innocuous aerial challenge with Sam Vokes as play was held up for five minutes.

As many as 10 medical staff were joined on the pitch by Eagles boss Warnock before the Palace centre-back was worryingly carried off on a stretcher.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy:

"It's better than being out of the competition.

"I thought we had some chances to win it in the second half and Crystal Palace played well.

"We didn't get anything other than what I expected from them. What I got from us, though, at the start of the first and second half is not what I expect.

"We've had to have a scrap, it was a cup tie. We've had to work harder than necessary just to get a draw."

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock:

"I can't say enough good things about my side - an absolutely incredible little bunch.

"We deserve to be in the hat and it will not be an easy game for them down at Selhurst Park.

"I thought the ref (Chris Foy) had a poor first half, but as poor as he was in the first-half he was as good in the second.

"I think my half-time team-talk did the trick really - I asked him if he wanted some smelling salts, I didn't think the concentration level was good enough from him in the first-half."
