Wrexham qualified for the FA Cup first round proper with a late win at Halifax in the fourth qualifying round.
Wes Baynes was the Wrexham hero deep in injury time as the substitute rifled home a 30-yard screamer.
Nicky Gray almost claimed an immediate equaliser to book Halifax a replay, but goalkeeper Chris Maxwell saved well.
Wrexham's Gareth Taylor had hit the bar with a header, but Steve Payne should have scored for Halifax from six yards when Maxwell spilled a corner.
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders: "It was a great strike and a great game, you've got to give credit to Halifax.
"We knew it would be tough, they haven't conceded in any cup competition, they've got a winning spirit and mentality and they were a real banana skin for us.
"If they beat us it wouldn't have been that much of a surprise.
"They'd hold their own in our league and shouldn't be in the league they are.
"I've told my side that I'm confident we can progress in this competition - hopefully I don't get a slap in the face in the next round!"
