Altrincham 0-0 Luton (aet)

Luton win 4-2 on penalties

Keeper Conrad Logan was the hero as 10-man Luton Town scraped into the second round of the FA Cup with a penalty shoot-out win over Altrincham.

Logan saved Warren Peyton's second-half spot-kick, after Sol Davis brought down Chris Senior and was sent off.

The Hatters keeper then saved two more penalties in the shoot-out, thwarting Mark McGregor and Robbie Lawton before Paul McVeigh netted the winning kick.

An otherwise uneventful tie was delayed for 35 minutes by a power cut.

Luton manager Mick Harford told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It was obviously a nervy evening. But full credit to the players. They've battled away and scrapped.

"There weren't a lot of chances created at either end but, for an hour we've played with 10 men and overall deserved the victory.

"The players had plenty of practice taking penalties yesterday, and I thoroughly believe that when you come into a cup tie, you have to look at every angle. We did our homework.

"Altrincham had played us before and knew how we were going to play. They got bodies behind the ball and restricted us to few chances."
