Santos wary of Leiston cup threat

Fleetwood Town defender Georges Santos believes victory at Leiston in the FA Cup is not a foregone conclusion.

Santos, who is cup-tied for the first round game, says the trip could be difficult despite Leiston being the lowest-ranked team left in the cup.

He told BBC Radio Suffolk: "I heard probably 1300 people will go to watch the game, if they win they go through and get a bigger club."

"That's not going to be an easy game," the former Ipswich man, 38, added.

Santos has FA Cup experience with several other clubs including Ipswich Town and Bury Town's cup opponents on Saturday, Alfreton Town.

Leiston are playing at home so I'm sure the supporters will be there to support them

The 38-year-old former Cape Verde international feels cup upsets are on the increase and discounts the fact that Blue Square North side Fleetwood play three leagues higher in the football pyramid than Eastern Counties League outfit Leiston.

"It's not easy like it used to be 10 or 15 years ago, it's 11 men against 11 men, and Leiston are playing at home so I'm sure the supporters will be there to support them."

However, Santos thinks Fleetwood Town have improved since the arrival of new manager Micky Mellon.

"Since the manager got the job he's picking up the results and I think the lads are quite happy.

"Everything is looking good at the moment and hopefully it will be like that until the end of the season."
