Sutton Utd 0-1 Notts County

Richard Butcher headed the only goal as Notts County edged past battling Sutton United at Gander Green Lane.

The home side started brightly and Dean Palmer tested Russell Hoult with a fierce shot from the edge of the box.

Sean Canham twice went close for the visitors in game of few chance and Paul Mayo and winger Matt Hamshaw also had decent opportunities.

And the pressure finally told when Butcher ghosted in at the back post to nod home Jamie Clapham's cross.

Notts County boss Ian McParland told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"I thought the lads passed it about well, they were professional about it and treated them with respect.

"I'd have taken a 1-0 any day of the week before I came down here because it's tricky and they boys gave a good account of themselves.

"I'm delighted because we've got a clean sheet and a 1-0 win."
