Plymouth 3-2 Hull
Peter Halmosi
Peter Halmosi was Plymouth's inspiration against Hull
Two goals from substitute Dean Windass were not enough for Hull as Peter Halmosi inspired Plymouth to a dramatic FA Cup third-round win at Home Park.

The Hungarian midfielder's free-kick set up Nadjim Abdou to give the Pilgrims the lead before he scored from his own set-piece three minutes later.

Windass lobbed Hull back into it and curled in a free-kick either side of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's header.

The hungry visitors failed to find an equaliser in a frantic last 10 minutes.

The home team started the brightest as shots from Ebanks-Blake and Halmosi forced Boaz Myhill to make two great saves at full stretch.

After Hull defender Sam Collins had hauled down Ebanks-Blake on the right on 21 minutes, Halmosi's free-kick was met by French midfielder Abdou, who slotted home from the centre of the penalty area.

Shortly after Plymouth doubled their lead when Halmosi's set-piece delivery evaded everyone before creeping into the net.

Hull found their feet a minute before the interval when Nick Barmby fired in a ferocious effort which goalkeeper Luke McCormick saved brilliantly.

Tigers boss Brown sent on fans' favourites Windass and Richard Garcia after the break and the change had an immediate effect.

The 38-year-old Windass defied his years to latch onto Barmby's knock-down before exquisitely lobbing the advancing goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

Halmosi then went on a mazy run before laying the ball unselfishly to former Manchester United player Ebanks-Blake, who made no mistake from the edge of the box.

Windass then set up a grandstand finish by curling a 25-yard free-kick past a sprawling McCormick to reduce the deficit to just one goal again.

Manager Paul Sturrock refused to let his side sit on their one-goal lead and urged them forward to close out victory.
