Chelsea came back - they seem to have extra courage and commitment when they are under pressure
|
The big two have been kept apart.
Chelsea against Manchester United would be the dream FA Cup final - and after Monday's semi-final draw it remains a possibility.
It does not always pan out that way but I think all the neutrals will be hoping they meet in the final because on their day, they are the two best sides in the country.
Of course, both United and Chelsea have yet to win their quarter-final replays.
I think Middlesbrough's best chance of defeating United was at home last Saturday.
Tottenham should have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday but they have already defeated Jose Mourinho's team at White Hart Lane this season and know how to beat them.
Their replay is on a Monday evening - and Chelsea will go into the match having played the previous Wednesday and Saturday.
Chelsea are also carrying a couple of injuries so it is certainly no foregone conclusion that both Mourinho's team and United will progress through to the last four.
Sunday's tie at Stamford Bridge had everything.
People pay their money to see entertainment and there was plenty on show.
There could have been a lot more goals and, although there were plenty of mistakes, there was a lot of quality football played during the game as well.
You have to admire the way Chelsea came back from 3-1 down. They seem to have extra courage and commitment when they are under pressure.
Blackburn and Watford will have wanted to play each other.
Both have done exceptionally well to reach the semi-finals but at that stage of the competition anything can happen.
I have played against lesser teams in semi-finals and the match does not always turn out as expected.
It is always a very difficult fixture because there is absolutely nothing for the losers.

I think Manchester City will survive in the Premiership and Stuart Pearce will still be the manager next season
|
This season the incentives to reach the final are greater than usual, given that it will be played at the new Wembley.
When the stakes are high the pressure is on and you just do not know what is going to happen.
Both Blackburn and Watford will have nothing to lose and we have seen many times in the past that in this situation the unfancied team can come out on top.
I think Blackburn have a better chance of reaching the final than Watford.
That said, the semi-final may come as a welcome release for the Hornets, who are having such a difficult time in the Premiership. They may be able to go out and express themselves.
Blackburn defeated Manchester City to reach the last four.
City just cannot put the ball in the net and when that happens everyone comes under pressure.
Obviously, Stuart Pearce himself is under tremendous pressure but Stuart is a big boy and I'm sure he will come out on top.
The stories suggesting he has two games to save his job are nonsense.
I think they will survive in the Premiership and Pearce will still be the manager next season.
If City were still in the Cup - or doing well in the Premiership - then Stuart being England Under-21 manager would not be an issue.
But I do not think the manager of a struggling team can do both jobs - and City are struggling at the moment.
Stuart has taken the under-21 job and I don't think he can back out of it now.
