Darren Potter and Craig Davies scored as Wolves saw off Oldham to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup and set up a tie with local rivals West Brom.
Potter lashed in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards after 55 minutes to put the visitors ahead.
And Davies headed in Rohan Ricketts cross from the left with 15 minutes to go to seal the victory.
Gary McDonald had Oldham's best chance, but blazed over the top when well-placed just 10 yards from goal.
Oldham boss John Sheridan:
"It was a good test for us.
"If we're going to go anywhere, that's what we've got to get used to week in, week out.
"It's something we've got to get used to but I'm proud of the lads."
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy on Potter, who is set to join permanently from Liverpool:
"We've agreed the fee and we've got an agreement with Darren.
"When the ball came to him, he nailed it and it was a fabulous strike.
"He's been terrific and what epitomises him is he came over and did a great job on the right side and did his shift."
