Forest boss retains league focus
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood
Calderwood is desperate to get Forest into the Championship
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood says their shock FA Cup win over Charlton will mean nothing if they are not promoted from League One in May.

After the 2-0 third round win, he said: "We'll take some joy from this result, but perhaps not as much as you'd think.

"The whole season is about May and about this club getting promoted.

"We've had a funny couple of weeks and after losing 5-0 to Oldham we hope to have restored some faith in our fans. We must prove that was a one-off."

Sometimes you have to accept you lost to the better team

Calderwood ditched his favoured 3-4-3 formation and went with a 4-3-3, with Nathan Tyson in particular causing mayhem down the left.

The Scot added: "Nathan has got outstanding pace and there's one or two others who are really good athletes as well.

"We were doing something right to be top of the league for so long but we took a pounding at Oldham and there were reasons for that.

"Today, we looked a force to be reckoned with and reached a level of performance we've got to a couple of times before.

"After everything that's happened recently, I'm still very optimistic at the moment about us getting promoted."

Charlton boss Alan Pardew admitted his injury-hit side got what they deserved at the City Ground.

606 DEBATE: Give your reaction to Forest's win

"We were just missing too many key players I think today, the spine of the team wasn't there," said Pardew.

"Forest were really fired up after their recent form and played teriffically well and deserved to win.

"Sometimes you have to just hold your hands up and accept that you lost to the better team.

"But there are things we need to work on, especially away from home, and we will be trying to address them quickly.

"I'll make sure we are a lot stronger next week. I hope we don't get too down on ourselves because Middlesbrough at home is a massive, massive game."
