Chester made the most of their FA Cup second chance as they held Championship Ipswich in a poor third-round tie.
City were reinstated after second-round opponents Bury were thrown out and the hosts could have beaten Ipswich had it not been for Town keeper Shane Supple.
The Ipswich keeper saved from Gregg Blundell and Sean Hessey before Blundell had a goal disallowed.
The visitors almost snatched a hardly-deserved winner when Alan Lee saw a shot cannon off the crossbar.
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton:
"A replay is the least Chester deserved.
"They were better than us in many areas and I was disappointed with our performance. We didn't do the basics well and they did.
"The players have to learn you don't just turn up and win games. We had people who thought it would be just a case of putting the shirt on."
