Championship strugglers Cardiff held their Premiership opponents to a derserved draw at Ninian Park.
Morten Gamst Pedersen gave Blackburn a fifth minute lead when he lifted the ball over Cardiff keeper Tony Warner after David Thompson's through ball.
The home side equalised on 35 minutes when Alan Lee's looping header came off the bar and then re-bounded into the net off Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel.
Cardiff went close through Lee and Junichi Inamoto in the second half.
Pedersen was only included in Blackburn's starting line-up because of Brett Emerson's late withdrawal with injury.
But the Norwegian made the most of his inclusion to silence the home crowd with a touch of class in Blackburn's first attack of the match.
Luck played a major part in Cardiff's equaliser, but the home side deserved something from the opening exchanges after some incisive attacking play.
Cardiff captain Graham Kavanagh had caused Blackburn's defence problems from free-kicks and corners and another cross from the Ireland midfielder gave Lee his chance.
The striker, getting a rare start, rose well between two defenders and saw the ball hit the under-side of the bar and then re-bound off the out-stretched arm of Friedel into the net.
Friedel was called into action early in the second half to save Inamoto's fierce 30-yard left foot shot and Lee's header as Cardiff began to look the most likely winners.
Blackburn thought they had taken the lead some 15 minutes later when Thompson found the net, but the referee had already blown to penalise Dickov's challenge on Warner.
Cardiff manager Lennie Lawrence
"Blackburn will be favourites [in the replay] as they were today, but if it's a battle then we can battle.
"We can also play a little bit as well, so we will go up there with realistic hopes.
"There is no doubt Mark Hughes has improved Blackburn. He has made them difficult to beat, while they are good on the counter attack, as most Premiership teams are.
"But we held our own today and their home record is not brilliant, so you never know."
Blackburn manager Mark Hughes
"It was probably a fair result. We did OK in the initial period, scored a goal and looked quite comfortable but Cardiff came back into it and put us under pressure.
"I think we should have kicked on and closed the game out quickly after our goal but credit to Cardiff because they stuck to their task.
"In the second half I thought we settled down again and saw out the gamequite comfortably and it means we are still in the hat.
"We are pleased to still be involved because if you look at some of the other results today they have gone against Premiership sides.
"So we are happy to take them back to Ewood Park, but if we are to get through our passing will need to be much better."
