Mansfield 0-2 Burnley

A brace of goals from Ian Moore sent Burnley through in a clash that saw three sendings-off at Field Mill.

Kevin Pilkington got a hand to Moore's glancing header from a James McEveley cross but failed to keep it out.

Mansfield lost Jamie Clarke for a dangerous challenge and Luke Dimech followed after holding back Moore.

Moore pounced on a rebound from Robbie Blake's free-kick and Richard Chaplow was dismissed for a second yellow.

The Clarets came into the game looking for their first away win in 11 attempts and Moore shot that went past the right-hand post was the closest effort in the opening quarter of an hour.

But McEveley, in his first start since joining on loan from Blackburn, broke down the left to feed Moore for the opener.

Clarke's clash with goalkeeper Brian Jensen as they went up for Lee Williamson's free-kick made the home side's task even harder but Jensen did well to twice deny Liam Lawrence as the Second Division side started the second half brightly.

Dimech's haul on Moore as he chased Jensen's long punt reduced Mansfield to nine men and, after Moore's second and Chaplow's dismissal for a foul on Lawrence, Burnley survived late efforts from Junior Mendes and Wayne Corden.
