Accrington Stanley booked their place in the third round of the FA Cup with a penalty shoot-out victory over Division Two side Bournemouth.

Paul Howarth scored the decisive spotkick for the Conference outfit after Karl Broadhurst had blasted the visitors' fourth penalty over the bar.

Accrington, who shocked Huddersfield in round one, will now entertain Colchester, another Second Division team.

Monday's second-round replay finished goalless after extra time, although both sides had opportunities to win.

Steve Fletcher missed Bournemouth's best chance when he dragged an effort wide in normal time.

But Accrington keeper James Speare also denied Warren Feeney twice as well as Wade Elliott.

Accrington Stanley: Speare, Howarth, Halford, Williams, Cavanagh, James, Procter, Gouck, Cook, Prendergast, Mullin. Subs: Kennedy, Armstrong, Flitcroft, Madden, Durnin.

Bournemouth: Moss, Purches, Carl Fletcher, Broadhurst, Cummings, Elliott, Stock, Browning, O'Connor, Feeney, Steve Fletcher. Subs: Connell, Hayter, Maher, Thomas, Buxton.

Referee: S Tomlin (E Sussex).
