Sheff Utd 4-0 Cheltenham
Sheffield United continued their good run with a comprehensive FA Cup win over Cheltenham at Bramall Lane. First-half goals from Shaun Murphy and John Paul McGovern and a second-half brace from Steve Kabba sealed the visitors' fate. And the victory should prove the perfect preparation for Wednesday's Worthington semi-final clash with Liverpool.
The Blades took the lead in the ninth minute with their first attack. McGovern's corner came in from the right and Murphy's header was scrambled off the line by Yates. But as the ball bounced loose, it fell to the Australian again and he stabbed home from close range. Four minutes later, Nick Montgomery had a snap shot held by Cheltenham goalkeeper Steve Book. After 20 minutes, Kabba crossed low from the left, Peschisolido swung and missed at the near post before McGovern, arriving late behind him, slammed the ball past Book from six yards. Phil Jagielka fired in the first decent effort of the second half on the hour when his right-footed shot from 20 yards brought a stunning fingertip save from Book. But the Cheltenham keeper could do nothing to stop United's third in the 63rd minute.
Kabba played a give and go with Peschisolido and the former Crystal Palace striker advanced into the box and fired low across Book and into the far corner. Kabba drilled another low shot wide from 15 yards five minutes later and almost scored with a deflection off his backside with 15 minutes remaining after McGovern's shot hit him and almost deceived Book. The fourth came for the Blades in the 84th minute when Kabba scored from close range with a back-header following a spell of head tennis as Cheltenham failed to clear their lines from a corner.
