Dons turn over Rotherham
Rotherham 0-3 Wimbledon

Wimbledon avenged their Worthington Cup exit at the hands of Rotherham by knocking the Millers out of the FA Cup.

Neil Shipperley, Joel McAnuff and Lionel Morgan scored Wimbledon's goals to put them into the draw for the fourth round on Monday.

If we had got one goal we would have gone on to win it

Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore

The visitors almost took the lead after just 34 seconds when David Connolly's left-foot shot was tipped round the post by keeper Mike Pollitt.

Rotherham's Martin McIntosh then looked to have broken the deadlock in the 14th minute when he found the back of the net with a header, only to see the effort disallowed for offside.

And both sides continued to create chances before Wimbledon finally opened the scoring in the 36th minute.

Peter Hawkins crossed from the left and Shipperley's glancing header found the bottom corner for his first goal in five games.

The scoreline flattered us but at least we kept a clean sheet

Wimbledon manager Stuart Murdoch

Rotherham's efforts to get an equaliser after the interval proved fruitless.

And they had keeper Pollitt to thank for keeping them in the game just after the hour with a a fantastic save to keep out Lionel Morgan's free-kick.

Wimbledon duly added a second after 85 minutes when McAnuff dispatched a ball from Connolly into the roof of the net.

And Morgan rounded off the Dons' fine win in injury time.
