Southport 0-3 Farnboro

Farnborough achieved their third round FA Cup dream by destroying 10-man Southport.

In a pulsating first-half Lenny Piper put the visitors ahead from an acute angle on 26 minutes.

Although Steve Dickinson made an excellent penalty save to deny Piper after Chris Lane was punished for hand-ball, Danny Carroll added a second just before half-time.

In a second period that threatened to boil over, Southport put Farnborough under considerable pressure and came closest when Steve Soley struck the post with a free-kick.

But substitute Dean Green ensured Farnborough's passage with his first touch on 83 minutes from Danny Carroll's cross.

Southport's Chris Lane was sent off for an ugly challenge on Justin Gregory at the end.

Southport: Dickinson, Barry Jones, Clark, Winstanley, Lane, Soley, Steve Jones, Gibson, Howell, Thomson, Whitehall. Subs: Sullivan, Lloyd-Williams, Scott, Bauress, Welsby.

Farnborough: Pennock, Warner, Bunce, Laker, Gregory, Carroll, Watson, Lenny Piper, Chris Piper, Charlery, Baptiste. Subs: Taggart, Osborn, Green, Holloway, Annon.

Referee: G Turner (Chesterfield).
