A second-half goal from Mark Rawle earned Southend a replay as they held Bournemouth to a draw in a nerve-jangling FA Cup tie. Rawle lashed the ball in from six yards in the 53rd minute after visiting goalkeeper Neil Moss failed to gather a corner. Rawle's effort cancelled out Karl Broadhurst's 41st-minute header from Gareth O'Connor's free-kick just before half-time. Southend's Graeme Jones twice failed to make the most of clear-cut opportunities after Rawle's equaliser. And the home side were indebted to goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan, who denied both Danny Thomas and O'Connor. Southend were given a great let-off late on when David McSweeney hooked O'Connor's shot off the line to ensure a replay.
Southend: Flahavan, Beard, Cort, McSweeney, Searle, Scully, Smith, Maher, Rawle, Bramble, Jones. Subs: Gay, Thurgood, Broad, Clark, Tilson. Bournemouth: Moss, Young, Carl Fletcher, Broadhurst, Stephen Purches, Elliott, O'Connor, Browning, Thomas, Steve Fletcher, Hayter. Subs: Stewart, Narada, Foyewa, Holmes, Tindall. Referee: A Bates (Staffordshire).
