Rushden moved into the second round of the FA Cup with a hard-fought home victory over Kidderminster.

A mistake by goalkeeper Billy Turley almost allowed Drewe Broughton the chance to give the visitors an early lead but the Kidderminster striker missed an open goal.

Soon afterwards, an error by Kenny Coleman almost let in Robert Duffy but the home striker was unable to hit the target.

Then against the run of play, Diamonds took the lead.

Paul Underwood delivered a fine cross from the left and teenager Duffy rose above the Kidderminster defence to head powerfully home after 35 minutes.

Turley made fine saves to deny Dean Bennett and Bo Henriksen as the visitors dominated possession in the first half.

But after 66 minutes, Diamonds extended their lead.

Marcus Bignot slipped a telling pass to Stuart Wardley and the midfielder coolly beat Stuart Brock from close range.

The visitors never gave up and were rewarded six minutes later when Broughton headed home Coleman's cross. But although the visitors continued to press, they found Turley in fine form.

Rushden & Diamonds: Turley, Bignot, Peters, Hunter, Underwood, Hall, Mills, Wardley, Gray, Darby, Duffy. Subs: Sollitt, Bell, Talbot, Dempster, Lowe.

Kidderminster: Brock, Coleman, Ayres, Hinton, Smith, Bennett, Williams, Parrish, Shilton, Henriksen, Broughton. Subs: Foster, Danby, Doyle, Joy, Khela.
