Tony Naylor was the hero for Cheltenham as the Third Division side moved into the fourth round of the FA Cup at the expense of Oldham.

The former Crewe Alexandra and Port Vale striker got both goals for the Robins as Second Division Oldham were outplayed at Whaddon Road.

Naylor headed the winner from close range on the hour after Oldham's David Eyres had earlier cancelled out his opening strike.

Despite playing in different divisions there was no sign of a gap in quality between the teams.

  Match details
25 mins: Naylor fires Cheltenham into the lead
43 mins: Eyres equalises from close range
60 mins: Naylor heads the winner for Cheltenham
Cheltenham made much the brighter start, with the strike partnership of Julian Alsop and Naylor causing Oldham's defence serious problems.

It was Alsop who first threatened to break the deadlock when he got on the end of a Naylor cross in the 15th minute.

His header was on its way to the top corner before Oldham keeper Gary Kelly tipped it round the post.

Russell Milton and Antony Griffin had good efforts in the following 10 minutes before Naylor fired a low shot past Oldham 'keeper Gary Kelly in the 25th minute.

The pressure continued after the goal and it was against the run of play when David Eyres equalised for Oldham in the 43rd minute.

A cross from John Eyre went right across the six yard box, allowing Eyres a simple tap in from close range.

Eyres went close again soon after the break when he drilled a low shot just past the post, but it was still Cheltenham who were making the running.

They regained the lead in the 60th minute when Lee Williams crossed for Naylor to head home six yards out.

Matthew Tipton and Craig Dudley were brought on in the closing 20 minutes to try and rejuvenate Oldham, but they rarely looked like finding a second equaliser.

Frustration finally got the better of Darren Sheridan, who was sent off for a second bookable offence after bringing down Alsop.

Eyres had one more glimpse of goal in the closing moments but blasted over from the edge of the box, completing a miserable afternoon for the visitors.
