Two goals from Martin Carruthers helped Scunthorpe book their place in the third round of the FA Cup after a thrilling over Brentford.

Carruthers stooped to head home his 13th goal of the season to give Scunthorpe the lead after 14 minutes.

And Alex Calvo-Garcia headed home the second after 34 minutes.

Experienced winger Peter Beagrie saw Brentford goalkeeper Olafur Gottskalksson save a 24th-minute penalty.

Brentford pulled one back through Mike Dobson six minutes before the break and striker Ben Burgess headed the equaliser after 52 minutes.

But Scunthorpe grabbed the winner with 17 minutes left.

Gottskalksson gifted the ball to Carruthers and he prodded the ball home.
