Motty's debt to Hereford
Stormy skies over Edgar Street, Hereford
Will Edgar Street host more FA Cup magic in 2002?
BBC football commentator John Motson relives memories of giant-killing exploits at Hereford.

It will be a nostalgic return to Edgar Street for me as Hereford take on Wrexham in the FA Cup first round.

I have fond memories of commentating on the Bulls - they have a special place in my football heart.

Everyone remembers they recorded that sensational victory over the Toon Army back in the 1970s.

Motty; Famed for his warm winter coats

Not only was it a great day for them, it was also a great day for me as it helped me get where I am today.

I feel like I owe a lot to Hereford for that giant killing and hopefully they can do it again. I have dined out on them often over the last 30 years!

They did well to beat Dover Athletic in the final qualifying round of this year's competition.

Gavin Williams scored the crucial goal to seal a 1-0 win at Dover.

Hopefully the publicity and the television fees will go some way to repaying them for the favour they did me all those years ago.

I know chairman Graham Turner is hoping for another famous win in front of the cameras.

That win against Newcastle certainly helped make my name as a commentator.

I have dusted down the sheepskin coat

Ronnie Radford's goal is probably the most replayed footage of the FA Cup in the history of the competition apart from some of the finals.

It would be great to see Hereford doing it again - especially because the game is live on BBC television.

I have dusted down the sheepskin coat and no doubt that unique buzz of excitement which the FA Cup always guarantees will help make a great occasion .

Hereford have still got some good players - such as Danny Davidson and Jimmy Quiggin - in their ranks.

And Wrexham haven't been too hot this season, so it has all the makings of a classic.
